Childrens/nursery rug design

A pattern of various green leaves, two orange butterflies, and two blue dragonflies on a light grey background.

About This Project

For this project, a local business, making play mats for nurseries, got in touch as they were looking for a fresh new rug design, around the theme of pondlife.

I got to work creating two different designs, featuring cute insects in a wild pond setting.

Steve at the company loved the designs and they were sent off to print.

It's always amazing to see how my designs are turned into real tangible products.

Colour palette

The challenge for this project was that due to the nature of the fabric print process, I was limited to only 13 colours for the entire design, so i had to really plan and be strategic in my planning execution of these designs.

A row of thirteen small squares in various colors, including white, black, blue, yellow, gray, and shades of green.
A square patterned fabric featuring various green tropical leaves and two small orange butterflies on a light gray background.
A rectangular blue mat patterned with white clouds, green tropical leaves, and a central orange butterfly.
A gray rectangular mat featuring green tropical leaves, ripple patterns, and a light blue dragonfly on a large leaf.
